چکیده

Augmented Reality (AR) superimposes computer-generated graphics onto the user's view of the real world. Today, AR applications can occasionally be found in the late phases of the product development process (PDP), such as in training and in maintenance. Head-mounted displays (HMDs) are typically used for AR applications. HMDs still show deficiencies in terms of ergonomics and image quality. Looking at the development of VR technology, it can be stated that VR began its triumphal procession only after replacing HMDs by immersive projection technology (IPT) such as PowerWalls, CAVEs, Virtual Tables. Projection-based Augmented Reality enhances such environments towards augmented reality applications. We believe that this concept opens new application possibilities for AR – especially in the early phases of the product development process. In this paper we will describe the concept of Projection-based Augmented Reality (PBAR), introduce current hardware prototypes and discuss applications of PBAR configurations within the following areas: augmented design review, hybrid assembling simulation, hybrid modeling/sketching and visual inspection of augmented physical parts.

Comparison of Different Targets Used in Augmented Reality Applications in Ubiquitous GIS

Drilling requires accurate information about locations of underground infrastructures or it can cause serious damages. Augmented Reality (AR) as a technology in Ubiquitous GIS (UBIGIS) can be used to visualize underground infrastructures on smartphones. Since smartphone’s sensors do not provide such accuracy, another approaches should be applied. Vision based computer vision systems are well kn...

Integration of Augmented Reality into the CAD Process

The enhancement of visualization skills of engineering students is essential for their development of design skills in many fields of engineering. Based on studies of visualization skills of entering first year engineering students, some of them have difficulties in dealing with orthographic applications (projections, orthographic to isometric transformations, etc.). They seem to lack sufficien...

Transparent Stereoscopic Display and Application

Augmented reality has become important to our society as it can enrich the actual world with virtual information. Transparent screens offer one possibility to overlay rendered scenes with the environment, acting both as display and window. In this work, we review existing transparent back-projection screens for the use with active and passive stereo. Advantages and limitations are described and...
